💧 What Is Water Jet Cutting?
Water jet cutting is a cold-cutting fabrication method that uses a high-pressure stream of water (often mixed with abrasive material) to slice through metal, carbon fiber, plastics, and more with extreme precision—without adding heat or distorting the material.
At Advanced Auto Fabrication (AAF), our water jet capabilities are one of the reasons we’re able to design and manufacture race-proven parts with repeatable, tight tolerances, whether it’s for BMW chassis reinforcement, custom brackets, or customer-designed components.
🛠️ Why Water Jet Cutting Matters in Motorsports
In racing, tolerances are everything. Whether you’re building a Spec E46, a PRO3 car, or a track-prepped E36, every bracket, mount, and gusset must fit perfectly and withstand extreme loads.
Unlike traditional cutting methods, water jet cutting:
-
❌ Does not introduce heat – No risk of warping or tempering metal
-
✅ Offers clean, burr-free edges – Less post-processing needed
-
✅ Handles complex shapes – Ideal for intricate designs or odd angles
-
✅ Works with many materials – Including steel, aluminum, carbon, Delrin, and more

🧩 How AAF Uses Water Jet Cutting in Our Parts
From reinforcement kits to adjustable shifters and custom AiM mounts, AAF’s in-house water jet allows us to:
🔹 Produce Race-Ready Parts
Our most popular parts—like the E46 Rear Subframe Reinforcement Kit—are cut in-house using our water jet, ensuring perfect fitment and eliminating the inconsistencies you’d find with outsourced or manually cut parts.
🔹 Support Custom Builds
Need a bracket or mounting plate that doesn’t exist? AAF can water jet custom pieces to match your build, whether it’s a fuel cell mount, chassis gusset, or cage plate. Our fabrication background ensures the part will hold up to track abuse.
🔹 Rapid Prototype & Production
Because we design and cut in-house, we’re able to quickly iterate and test new parts, getting them from idea to install faster than traditional shops. This speed and control help keep costs low and turnaround high.
